Workshop on Gender Mainstreaming in Higher Education
The Political Science Study Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Undana University, Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, organized a workshop on Gender Mainstreaming in Higher Education on Thursday, February 3, 2022, in Kupang.
This activity is part of the Capacity Building program themed “Citizens’ Participation in Resource Governance and Sustainable Transition (CitRes)” under the international cooperation program Norwegian Program for Capacity Development in Higher Education and Research for Development II (NORHED II).
The event was carried out through collaboration between the Faculty of Social and Educational Sciences, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (FSES NTNU), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (Fisipol UGM), Undana Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisip Undana), Bangka Belitung University Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisip UBB), and Pontianak State Polytechnic (Polnep).
The Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisip), Undana, Dr. Melkisedek Neolaka, expressed that the Norhed II Program is a collaboration aimed at enhancing the capacity of teaching staff, administration, and institutions in higher education to become sensitive to gender equality and justice.
Esrah Benu, the Coordinator of the Political Science Study Program, stated that the purpose of the event is to promote higher education institutions that are sensitive to gender equality and justice.
“This activity is expected to provide enlightenment and pave the way for the internalization of gender mainstreaming into the curriculum and academic interactions and life on campus,” he said.
Dr. Rudi Rohi, Manager of the NORHED Program, stated that the gender mainstreaming workshop aims to internalize the perspective of gender mainstreaming, especially feminism, into campus life to make it more friendly towards women.
“The target of this workshop is for us to produce a pre-policy document that we can offer to the Political Science Study Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Undana, and collaborate with other faculties. We hope that this can be internalized into the curriculum of the political science study program; at the very least, we can start the process,” he said.
Dr. Rudi hopes that the Political Science Study Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Undana, can also have a Code of Conduct regarding academic and non-academic interactions on campus that prioritize gender equality.
