Gender mainstreaming program: Capacity Building on Gender Responsivity

Strengthing Gender-Responsive in Campus Through The Gender Mainstreaming and Inclusivity Workshop

The Political Science Study Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Bangka Belitung (UBB), organized a series of workshop related to gender mainstreaming and inclusivity in higher education environment. The workshops took place at the Ballroom Sri Pemandang Swiss-belHotel Pangkal Pinang on June 15th 2022.

Furthermore, this workshop is also part of  capacity building under the ‘Citizens Participation in Resource Governance and Sustainable Transition (CitRes)’ program,  an international cooperation program funded by Norwegian Program for Capacity Development in Higher Education and Research for Development II (NORHED-Norway) collaborated with NTNU-Norway, PolGov-UGM,  the Department of Political Science at UNDANA, and POLNEP from 2021 to 2026.

There are three competent speakers namely Dr. Rina Herlina Haryanti, M.Si. (Senior Researcher on Population and Gender Issues at the UNS Research and Community Service Institute); Dr. Aimie Sulaiman, M.A. (Dean of FISIP UBB); Marini, M.A (Babel Women’s Caucus). Workshop Chairperson; Khadijah, S.I.Kom., M.Han was attend in this workshop. 

Aimie Sulaiman stated  gender injustice and sexual violence which are mainly discuss in higher education. “Our workshop activities is part of designing more responsive, gender, disability, and social inclusion (GEDSI) perspective-based learning, research, and service models. In the future, the accreditation process will also consider GEDSI issues as part of the assessment,” she said.

For this reason, Aimie Sulaiman sees this as a joint momentum to open up dialogue space and receive input from stakeholders that will be inventoried in the form of curricula, policy documents, and more inclusive admission systems. 

Aimie is committed to promote gender-friendly academic atmosphere. “Gender is not just about women, but also about men and those who are vulnerable. The campus have to take part from provide research center and gender-perspective course,” she concluded.

Meanwhile, Rendy Hamzah, M.A., the Project Manager of Norhed II JIP UBB, explained the crucial position of the campus to highly commit in implementation inclusive gender and social inclusion practices.
